Importance of Diffractive Optical Elements in the PROMETHEUS system

Diffractive optical elements, or DOEs are used where high accuracy shaping of high power lasers is needed.
They allow combining multiple functions into one surface, in ways ta usually are impossible in regular refractive components.

In the PROMETHEUS DLIP Module, this capability is harnessed, with a unique design of a DOE that is both a diffractive prism, a focus lens and a line shaper.
In fact, almost all the optics of the DLIP module are diffractive- from the first beam splitter through the parallelizing be-prism, to the final prism that overlaps the beam on the work surface.
